The truth comes out, or does it?

At long last, Michael sent a text which said, ‘Hi, babes! It’s my first day back at work. I was off with flu. I’ve just turned phone on. I’ll talk to you later tonight x’

‘Okay,’ she texted back, too angry to add her usual kisses.

‘I’ve just read your texts. I’m sorry. I told you a million times I’m a total wanker x,’ he admitted.

Mellowed by his tone, she replied, ‘Yes, I agree. I guess I’m just as bad in my own way x’

‘No, you’re not. All this is my fault, as usual. I think I’ve spent the last two years trying to get you to hate me instead of dealing with you. For that, I’m forever sorry x,’ he texted.

A mixture of anger and love washed over her as she texted, ‘It just shows my powers of endurance then I guess. It recently nearly worked though. You’ve tried to make you hate me too. That didn’t work either, although it came close.’

‘Sure, we will sort things out x,’ he promised.

‘We usually do. And it’s two and a half years, not two,’ she informed him.

‘Sure, it’s a long time,’ he acknowledged. ‘A lot has been said. Maybe too much x’

His last remark worried her. ‘I doubt it. Most was said in anger because you ignored me when I thought we were close. If you’d treated me properly, I’d have said nothing. We’d both have been fine x’

‘Yes, you’re right x,’ he said.

‘If we end, I want it to be as friends,’ she texted.

‘I would hope so,’ he replied. ‘So much is going through my head, I don’t know what to do or say x’

‘Well, my head is fine now you’re talking,’ she said.

‘Yes. There’s also been too much shit said on my part, or not enough,’ he replied enigmatically.

‘We’re both a couple of idiots really,’ she said.

Even more enigmatically, he came back with, ‘Well I am in more ways than you know x’

‘Why, what have you done?’ she asked, sensing another portentous, imminent revelation.

‘Fucked you about too much x,’ he admitted.

Kicking herself for sounding weak, she still texted, ‘Well yes, but I always get over the hurt eventually. Not sure why, but I do x’

‘Yes, I guess x,’ he replied.

‘The only way we will end this is when and if you do it xxx,’ she vowed.

‘I guess I can’t take much more of my life as it stands x,’ he admitted.

‘Well I’m here to help, as always. I’m not working for the next three days xxx,’ she texted.

He replied, ‘I’m in work until the end of next week x’

‘Does that mean we’re more or less likely to meet?’ she asked. ‘That is, if you want to meet any more. By the way, if you say you can’t take your life as it stands, you’ve the option to change it. I did and have no regrets. It took courage and short-term pain, but it was worth it xxx’

‘Yes, maybe! I wish it was that simple. I don’t know where I am right now or what to do.
